MUMBAI - A key Indian equity index shut shop 111 points in the red Tuesday as a variety of stocks across sectors came under selling pressure.
The 30-scrip sensitive index, Sensex, of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,414.8 points, closed at 17,214.87 points (provisional) — down 111.14 points or 0.64 percent from Saturday’s close.
The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), too, closed in the red at 5,112.6 points, down 0.57 percent.
However, broader market indices managed to close in the green despite selling pressure. The BSE midcap index ended 0.08 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index made a modest gain, closing 0.18 percent up.
