Sensex tastes 18K; closes flat at 17,970Though the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index, Sensex, rescaled the much desired 18,000 level on Wednesday after nearly 25 months, it could not sustain at higher levels due to selling pressure. The Sensex was above 18,000 on February 27, 2008 for the last time.
The Sensex climbed to the day’s high of 18,047.86 before finally closing flat at 17,970.02, with a paltry gain of just 28.65 points.
The broad-based Nifty at the National Stock Exchange too witnessed a volatile trading session during the day. The index climbed to 5,399.65 during the day before ending the day at 5,374.65, up by 8.65 points or 0.16 points.
However, the Auto index remained the star at the BSE on Wednesday. It jumped 1.10 per cent to 7,823.21 as compared to the previous day’s close. Among others while BSE Oil climbed 0.76 per cent to 10,502.10, BSE Midcap rose 0.70 per cent to 8,983.99.
Grasim Industries, Tata Motors and ACC remained the top constituents of the Sensex with advances of 2.75 per cent, 2.42 per cent and 2.41 per cent respectively. On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever performed the worst in the league as it dropped 2.07 per cent during the day’s trade.
