One of the most cherished and by far the most sought after smartphone in the world, Apple iPhone has now topped the charts in the smartphone sales figures in the U.S, as per the latest report released by the prestigious market analysis firm, Canalys. Apple Inc. has captured nearly 26% of all U.S smartphone sales, while the Finnish handset manufacturing giant, Nokia, remains the global leader in smartphones sales with an incredible 33% market share worldwide. However, even with the release of the all new Apple iOS 4, Google Android mobile operating system has still retained the top spot in the field of mobile OS and is said to be gathering more momentum with each passing day.

As far Google Android is concerned, the open source operating system has witnessed a phenomenal jump in the last one year with 1,309% of the global market share and has even claimed 43.6% of the total U.S smartphone industry. The makers of Blackberry, Research in Motion (RIM) has been edged out by Apple Inc, in terms of handsets with 26% of all U.S smartphone sales as against 24.2% sales recorded by RIM. This continuous tug of war between the world’s biggest handset manufacturers is expected to escalate with the introduction of the all new Microsoft Windows Phone 7 series. As Microsoft inches closer to nearly $500 million budget for Windows Phone 7 series marketing efforts, the next quarter’s results would definitely be more exciting to look forward to.
