Apple: Relatively New Entrant in the Smartphone Market - - With 60% Increase in Sales Maintained 3rd Spot in The Smartphone Market Globally

Apple, a late entrant into the smart phone market has managed to do really well in the past three years with its one and only smart phone the iPhone. iPhone, when launched created an entirely new breed of smart phone users, App developers and of course game developers. Apple's iPhone made sure that, existing biggies like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung revisit their touch screen phone strategy and do something about it very seriously.

Till date Apple has released three version of the iPhone and coming June 7th we will be seeing the iPhone 4G or the iPhone HD. Actually nobody knows what it will be called so we have to wait and watch. Apple's impressive growth is showcased by the chart above from MarketWatch. Apple's market share has grown by 60% y-o-y and for Q1 2010, it stands at the third place with 16% market share of the global smart phone market. Its way behind where Nokia is, but I am sure Apple will be looking towards toppling RIM from its second place. Whats sad is that Motorola, who started it all and has been in this industry from donkey's years has just 4% market share.
